God of Discovery [Masterpost] Start here!
Keep track of the online serial God of Discovery and all new updates related to it.
Just because they were never born, did not mean they could never die.
A minor god avoiding his duties ends up getting dragged right into them when he stumbles upon magic not controlled by the gods. This high fantasy adventure has deities as the main characters, queer and neurodivergent rep, a unique magic system, and adventures that only gods can deal with.
Although Substack is extremely friendly for serializing content, I like the idea of having access to everything in one place, so anything and everything related to God of Discovery will be added here, including world building, shorts, excerpts, art, and the actual stories.
God of Discovery is currently available to read online for free on various platforms. Over time, I will be adding the first two arcs on here, but for now the links to those arcs will lead to the other places they’re available. Arc 3 is all on here :)
[Successfully completed both NaNoWriMo and the RoyalRoad Writathon challenge during Nov 2023]

Just because they were never born, did not mean they could never die.
In a realm of shifting magic, D'Argen, the God of Discovery, and Thar, the god erased from history, unite through magic to unlock secrets of the past in order to make sure they have a future.
For the first time since their fall to the mortal realm, magic has started acting strange. With so many of the gods already dead, they cannot afford to lose any more. Unfortunately, nobody believes D’Argen’s claims of the magic changing. Not even when rumours start spreading through the mortals of the demons’ return.
When D’Argen and Thar meet for the first time in centuries, it is not only to witness the changing magic and the demon rumours, but to connect through magic in a way that was considered impossible until that moment. And then to figure out how to survive their bond long enough to warn the others of what is to come.
Explore a world of gods, magic, and demons, as D’Argen and Thar race against time to decipher the past and secure their realm's survival.
God of Discovery. Arc 1 [complete at 74,074 words]
Very few mortals knew D’Argen’s name and even fewer worshipped him. Those that had heard of him knew him as the runner, the explorer, and only a handful prayed to him as the God of Discovery. His interest was never in ruling subjects anyway but in running through the lands in search of adventure and new discoveries.
At the behest of the other gods, D’Argen returns home for the first time in centuries, only to be immediately sent off again with worrying rumours of demons. During his run, he discovers a strange anomaly in the core of all magic and meets an old friend, one that he drags back into society in order to prepare for a trip north into new lands and, unknowingly, into a new relationship that could threaten the future of the gods as they exist.
32 chapters available on RoyalRoad, Wattpad, and Yoru.
God of Discovery. Arc 2 [complete at 87,560 words]
D’Argen has confirmed that there is something strange happening with the magic in Trace. Now, he just has to convince the others and figure out what it really is. Unfortunately, returning to the gods' main city with the exiled god Thar in tow is proving to be too distracting.
When the prospect of new lands in the coldest reaches of Trace calls for him, he learns just how dangerous this new magic can be. Despite Thar’s powers over the cold, going where no mortal or god has ever been before is dangerous. Even more so when that strange magic influences both him and his companions. But despite Thar’s growing powers and Lilian’s diminishing interests, D’Argen pushes forward into the unknown and into a relationship that could threaten the future of the gods as they exist.
47 chapters available on RoyalRoad, Wattpad, and Yoru.
God of Discovery. Arc 3. [complete at 112,283 words]
When the gods fall to the mortal realm, so does D’Argen, a god who crashes with enough force to destroy an entire culture. In response to his fall, he does what he knows best – he runs away and tries to forget about it. It is only through the intervention of his first friend, Lilian, that D’Argen is brought back into the fold, dedicating the next few millennia to aiding the gods in establishing their presence in the mortal realm.
As the years pass, D’Argen begins to feel a deep sense of unease, like something is not quite right. He finds himself questioning his leaders and trying to fight against his own nature without reason. Add to that being haunted by memories that have yet to happen, and D’Argen ends up fearing for his sanity.
When a memory surfaces that shows him the deaths of hundreds of the gods, D’Argen must figure out how to use his broken mind to his advantage, before he ends up losing those closest to him.

God of Discovery. Arc 4. [in progress]
Avoiding someone who can feel your every being, no matter how far you are from one another, is a task that D’Argen is more than willing to take on. Fortunately for him, the rest of the gods seem to be perfectly at ease at keeping the two apart. Even more fortunate, Thar does not seem to care about their bond either and ignores him just as easily.
Except, it starts to become harder to ignore one another when the mortals gain access to the gods’ magic. It is in the same place where D’Argen and Thar forged their connection, and it is possible the two have something to do with one another.
In order to learn how to stop the mortals from abusing the magic, what their bond actually means, and how to even stand to be around one another – D’Agen and Thar must explore the lands and learn the truth. Even if that means setting god-mortal relations back by millennia and turning even more mortal nations against the rule of the gods.
